Jonathan Edward (Jon) Bernthal (Washington D.C., 20 september 1976) is een Amerikaanse acteur. Hij is het meest bekend vanwege zijn rollen in The Punisher (Frank Castle) en The Walking Dead (Shane Walsh). Ook was hij te zien in de film Fury.

Jeugd

Bernthal is geboren en opgegroeid in Washington D.C.. waar hij afstudeerde aan de Sidwell Friends School. Vervolgens studeerde hij aan het Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York en ging daarna naar The School of Moscow Art Theatre, in Moskou, Rusland. Tijdens zijn verblijf daar speelde hij ook professioneel honkbal in de European Professional Baseball Federation (Confédération Européenne de Baseball). Hij werd ontdekt door de directeur van de Harvard-universiteit Institute for Advanced Theatre Training op de American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge (Massachusetts) en werd uitgenodigd om daar verder te studeren voor zijn diploma, dat hij in 2002 behaalde.

Persoonlijk

Bernthal is getrouwd met Erin, een nicht van professioneel worstelaar Kurt Angle. Het stel heeft twee zoons en een dochter.
